Students of secondary schools "Sezai Surroi" and "Saint Sava" from Bujanovac took today the activity for raising awareness about environmental protection.

Young participants in the activity distributed to the citizens of Bujanovac the appropriate materials on environmental protection. This activity is part of the campaign implemented by the EU Progress Program, in collaboration with the consulting agency "Executive Group" and association "Generator" from Vranje.

"The campaign aims to raise awareness about environmental protection. . With this campaign, I would like to mаке the citizens think differently about waste and waste management, "said Radule Ristovic, Senior Coordinator of the EU Progress Program in South Serbia.

Participants in the activity pointed out that they would take several more activities for protecting the environment and for having a cleaner and nicer city.

Basra Memeti, an associate for environmental protection at the municipality of Bujanovac, said that the municipality of Bujanovac had already undertaken the activities related to waste management and recycling. . 

“We repaired the city dump and got the transfer station project, which is part of the regional waste management plan. In recent years, the problem with scrap metals was solved, since there are four landfills for collection of such waste in the municipality. As for plastics, there are people interested in the recycling of plastics, and we will consider the options for resolving the problem, "said Mr. Memeti.

Cleaning and waste collection activities will be organized in the coming months, as well as  street performances, where a large number of citizens are expected, as well as a series of training courses, with the aim of encouraging the citizens in the selected municipalities to create an environment in which environmental protection is a priority. 

In addition to the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, the campaign also includes Vranje, Leskovac and other municipalities in South Serbia.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union and the Government of Switzerland.
