Bujanovac – As part of the project “Serbia’s OSCE Chairmanship in 2015 and the Role of Youth”, implemented by the Serbian Youth Umbrella Organization (SYUO), workshops for and on the young were held on November 4 and 5 at the Youth Office in Bujanovac and on the premises of the “Generator” association in Vranje.  The aim of the workshops was to familiarize young people with the work of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the challenges related to the security and safety of the young, Serbia’s OSCE chairmanship in 2015, as well as to determine the role of young people in terms of the above mentioned topics.

The participants in the workshops were informed about the work of the OSCE, the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Serbian OSCE Chairmanship priorities.  They also had the opportunity to talk about youth security and safety, prioritize challenges in that field and suggest the ways of  overcoming them.

Workshops on the aforementioned topics are being held throughout Serbia, while the Serbian Youth Umbrella Organization, during Serbia’s OSCE presidency, shall submit the recommendations of the young for improving their security and safety to the appropriate institutions.  

Switzerland and Serbia, during their OSCE presidency, positioned the security and safety of the young high in their work schedules and determined the adoption of the Action Plan for Youth in Serbia next year.   

The Serbian Youth Umbrella Organization (SYUO) is the highest representative body of young people in Serbia whose task is to represent the interests of the young by developing partnership relationship with the state and through inter-sectoral and international cooperation, as well as to encourage active involvement of the young in the projects. The SYUO has 81 youth organizations in the territory of Serbia and is a member of the European Youth Forum.
