"I don't know what the intention is, whether it is intentional or not, but the fact is that we have been fighting the fire at the garbage dump since Friday. On Saturday, during the day, we managed to localize the fire, but it was re-ignited in the evening, so that it broke out in the other part of the garbage dump," Mr. Halili said.
He rejected as completely untrue the rumors that the workers of "Komunalac" set fire to the city garbage dump, because, allegedly, there was no more room for garbage.
“This is not true. We used all our machinery, along with the machines of a private company, to put out the fire. The workers are there now as well, a buffer layer is being placed, and we are doing everything in our power to resolve the issue, "Mr. Halili said.
Mr. Halili does not know anything about the transfer station or the recycling center, which has been awaited for several years as a saving solution, and refers us to the Municipality.
Enver Ramadani, the then Head of the Investments and Development Department, who is now the President of the Assembly, said on April 10 last year that the installation of the transfer station equipment had started.
He then said that the deadline for the completion of the works was 20 days, while we remind you that the project started in 2013.
10 million dinars intended for the construction of external connections were allocated in the municipal budget for 2019 for the last phase of enabling the transfer station for being used.
Upon the budget rebalance, which was done at the end of 2019, those funds were redirected to public lighting.
The municipal government decided to take that move because it was estimated that there was not enough time to carry out the planned works.
Until the transfer station is completed, the citizens will not be able to do anything but dread the fire and shut their windows.
