Vranje/Vranje Spa – Michael Kirby, the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, laid yesterday a cornerstone of the regional Safe House, which will be built on the site in Vranje Spa. The facility at issue will be built on an area of 350 square meters and it will be large enough to accommodate 20 to 25 people.  It will be constructed in accordance with the European standards. At a ceremony in Vranje Spa, Ambassador Kirby pointed out that the command of the U.S. military forces in Europe would put aside 213,000 dollars for the construction of the facility.

Veran Matic, the Director of the B92 Fund, said that the project was aimed at providing first aid to women victims of domestic violence, who, as part of the Safe House’s self-sufficiency, would work on the property around the building, modeled on the Safe House in Sombor.

Dragoljub Stevanovic, Deputy Mayor of Vranje, said that the Safe House would be a place where women would be empowered and supported to overcome the role of a victim. He also said that the project would have multiple dimensions for the local community.

The contractor is the "Noveko" company, while completion of the facility is scheduled for the end of the year.
