REDUCING POVERTY AND IMPROVING WORKING CONDITIONS OF THE ROMA COMMUNITY IN SOUTH SERBIA IN THE FIELD OF COLLECTING RECYCABLE MATERIALS-PHASE III

As part of the implementation of the second phase of the project aimed at reducing poverty and improving the position of collectors of secondary raw materials, a round table discussion under the title of the ”Regulation and Practice of Recycling the Municipal Waste, the Current Situation and Problems of Collectors of Secondary Raw Materials, the Possibilities of Cooperation Between the Public, Private and NGO Sectors in the Field of Sustainable Development” was held at the municipal building in Vladicin Han.  

As part of the implementation of the second phase of the project aimed at reducing poverty and improving the position of collectors of secondary raw materials, a round table discussion under the title of the ”Regulation and Practice of Recycling the Municipal Waste, the Current Situation and Problems of Collectors of Secondary Raw Materials, the Possibilities of Cooperation Between the Public, Private and NGO Sectors in the Field of Sustainable Development” was held at the municipal building in Vladicin Han.  

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for Poverty Reduction and Social Inclusion, representatives of the “TARA” project, which is implemented by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, representatives of the “Caritas Luxembourg“ organization, representatives of the municipalities , as well as by representatives of four Roma NGOs from the Pcinj district that are involved in the project.

Presented at the roundtable were the achieved results of the project, which include strengthening the technical and managerial capacities of members of the association of collectors of secondary raw materials through training, provision of the equipment for new members of the association, which includes tricycles and protective equipment, as well as the equipment for common use, such as balers, perforators and weighing scales.

Discussed at the meeting was that the municipalities of Bujanovac, Vranje, Vladicin Han and Surdulica should include the association of collectors of secondary raw materials “Amalipe” in their local waste management plans.  Also launched at the meeting was the initiative for the submission of a joint project of the municipalities of the Pcinj district that are involved in the project, with the assistance of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for Poverty Reduction and Social Inclusion. A workshop on the joint project is to be held in November, with the active participation of the Local Economic Development Offices and representatives of member clusters of collectors of secondary raw materials “Amalipe”.
