Bujanovac – On Monday, May 18, the Bujanovac Red Cross  Office will start distributing humanitarian packages containing food, hygiene products and flour to the residents of the Bujanovac municipality who live in the so-called substandard settlements "Jacim Djosic", "Morava 76", New Settlement, Moravska and Gnjilane Road.

“The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Policy has provided the packages, which each contain 10 kilograms of food items, 6 kilograms of hygiene products and 10 kilograms of flour, for 1,200 vulnerable persons, mostly from Roma families, "said Bratislav Lazarevic, the Secretary of the Bujanovac Red Cross Office.

According to him, the aid will be given to the households from the lists made by  representatives of the Roma communities from the above-mentioned settlements, taking care that the packages end up with the really most vulnerable families.

"As I said earlier, we asked the authorities from the local self-government for lists of the citizens who have already received aid, both from the municipality and from donations, so that it would not happen that someone gets aid more than once and someone never," Mr. Lazarevic said.

The aid will be distributed on the premises of the Bujanovac Red Cross Office, and a schedule with the dates when the inhabitants of specific settlements will be able to pick up their packages has been published.

The distribution of aid begins in the New Settlement, followed by "Jacim Djosic", "Morava 76", Moravska and Gnjilane Road settlements.

The Red Cross Office points out that the schedule must be strictly respected, as well as the prescribed measures for the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus or that it is mandatory to wear protective masks and gloves and maintain distance.

A valid ID card is required, and if they sre not able to pick up the package within the prescribed period, they will be allowed to do so 7 days after the last day of distribution.

Mr. Lazarevic also announced aid for elderly households and large vulnerable families in local communities.

"Shortly after this distribution, we will distribute another 400 packages from the UNHCR to the most vulnerable persons in local communities. Also, there will soon be aid for 80 families with a larger number of children, provided by the UNICEF," Mr. Lazarevic said.
