Bujanovac – Young activists of all nationalities from Bujanovac will join the global movement "One Billion Rising" and dance in the center of Bujanovac at 12 am today. Over 30 young persons from Bujanovac, aged from 16 to 30, will take part in the activity.

The activity "One Billion Rising Against Violence Committed on Women”," which is undertaken by the Generator association from Vranje, was joined by the Committee for Human Rights from Vranje, the Civic Initiatives and the Youth Build Project’s participants from Bujanovac. It was organized in cooperation with the Youth Office in Bujanovac and secondary schools "Sveti Sava" and "Sezai Surroi" from Bujanovac, with the support of students of the secondary economic and chemical-technical schools in Vranje.

The global campaign "One Billion Rising" was launched in 2013 and it invites youth to stop violence against women.

By this action, young people from South Serbia, primarily girls and young women, who are Serbian, Albanian and Roma, as well as their male peers, want to support women victims of male violence and to draw attention to the fact that violence committed against women is a crime.

The activity is organized within the framework of the "We-Here" campaign, as part of the "Equalize Me!" project, in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac, Vranje and Vladicin Han.

The project is aimed at drawing the attention of the societies in the four municipalities in South Serbia to the importance of respecting the rights of minorities, the fight against discrimination and inclusion.

The project deals with minority groups that are most discriminated against in South Serbia, such as ethnic minorities (Albanian and Roma), women, LGBT people and people with disabilities. The project is implemented with the financial support of the EU Delegation to Serbia, through the EIDHR program and the city of Vranje.
