Due to the growing interest of citizens, civil society organizations, cooperatives and local self-governments in social cooperatives, as well as the specifics of cooperative and social entrepreneurship, the Association for Local Development Kamenica prepared a manual "How to Form a Social Cooperative in Serbia". The manual was developed with the aim of enabling the informed involvement of all stakeholders in the process of starting social cooperatives, their businesses and their development.
The manual "How to Form a Social Cooperative in Serbia" offers basic information about the organizational make-up of social cooperatives, while it focuses on the values of democratic decision-making, the ways of distributing surplus value and achieving social goals.
These are also the key characteristics of social cooperatives, which qualify them for partnership with stakeholders from all sectors interested in balanced and sustainable development (local self-governments, ministries, domestic foundations, bilateral and international donors, socially responsible companies).
The manual was developed as part of the project "Transformation Potential and Effects of a Four-Year Implementation of Article 11 of the Law on Cooperatives of the Republic of Serbia on the Development of Social Entrepreneurship in Serbia", implemented in partnership by the Association for Local Development Kamenica, Cooperative Union of Serbia and the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Team of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The project was implemented as part of the program "Active Citizens – Better Society: Advocating for Cooperation and Democratic Development of Serbia", implemented by the Belgrade Open School (BOS), with the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
