    Eight more families that consist of refugees and displaced persons, who are currently accommodated in collective centers in Medvedja, will get “roofs over their heads” by this September. Two new blocks of flats will be constructed for them at the site located opposite the city buss station, where four buildings were built for them as long as six years ago, where 16 such families were permanently accommodated then.

    Thanks to the „Serbia in Serbia“project, the National Theatre from Belgrade, the Serbian National Theater from Novi Sad, the Yugoslav Film Archives, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the „Kolo“Troupe and the Film Center of Serbia are going to give concerts, theatrical, opera and ballet performances, as well as to show films, in the cities starting from Bujanovac and Medvedja to Sremska Mitrovica.

  • COORDINATION BODY’S RULES OF PROCEDURE ADOPTED0

    Following the signing of the Agreement on Inclusion of the Albanian representatives in the Coordination Body’s work, members of the narrow composition of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja held their first meeting in Belgrade on April 15, 2009. The meeting was chaired by Milan Markovic, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and President of the Coordination Body, and Saip Kamberi, Deputy President of the Coordination Body and Mayor of the municipality of Bujanovac.

    Through the USAID program that is implemented in South Serbia’s municipalities, 14 small-sized companies dealing with food production and service trades received the support amounting to 195,000 US dollars last year. 121 workers are employed in those companies, which are located in Presevo and Bujanovac.

    Cameron Munter, the US Ambassador to Serbia, said for the “FoNet” press agency that the US government fully supported the signing of the Agreement on Reconstruction of the Coordination Body for South Serbia.
     
    – We think the agreement is an expression of goodwill of the Albanian population and the Serbian government – pointed out Mr. Munter – The agreement is an important step forward, which will make it possible for residents of the region to work in the integrated body, as well as to cooperate.

    The first meeting of the reconstructed Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja should be held as early as sometime this week, following the last Friday’s signing of an agreement on the reconstruction of the body, which representatives of the Albanian political parties from South Serbia rejoined after two years.

During the said period, the most produced goods were furniture casings for “Simpo” furniture factories, as well as for the mattress factory from Bujanovac.
