USAID STARTED SMALL BUSINESS IN SOUTH SERBIA
By using the know-how and experience of the employees of onetime corporate giants from South Serbia, over 30 entrepreneurs from Bujanovac, Presevo, Vranje, Leskovac, Surdulica, Lebane, Trgoviste, Medvedja, Vlasotince, Bojnik and other towns, supply both the domestic and foreign market with their products.
READ MORELast Friday, Minister Milan Markovic, the President of the Coordination Body, paid a visit to the village of Levosoje, which is situated in the municipality of Bujanovac. He firstly talked with members of the agricultural cooperative “Jug Levosoje”, which is an example of multi-ethnicity and which proves that co-operation between Albanians and Serbs is possible. Members of this agricultural cooperative received the funds through the Coordination Body’s open competition for repairing their agricultural machines and purchasing the seeds for spring planting.

On Friday, May 28, 2010, Minister Milan Markovic will pay a visit to the municipality of Bujanovac. As the President of the Coordination Body for South Serbia, he will firstly visit the village of Levosoje. He is going to talk with members of the “Jug Levosoje” farm co-operative, the spring planting of which is funded by the Coordination Body. Minister Markovic will, thereafter, visit the “Vuk Karadzic” elementary school in Levosoje, which the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government assists with developing a gym construction project.

READ MORELOZNICA – Secondary school students from Presevo and Bujanovac performed a multiethnic play “You and I are We” at the 39th. “Vukov sabor”. Fourteen secondary school students performed “a teenage pop show in four languages” and showed that young Serbs, Albanians and Roma can cooperate closely. Aleksandar Lazic, the producer of the play, says that a good story was made by Serbs, Albanians and Roma, who became a genuine team after having had a few rehearsals.

A parade of the event’s participants along the street of Loznica, concerts given by folklore ensembles and fine arts workshops will be organized this year, like they were organized in the past.

As part of fostering cooperation between the private and public sector, the Commercial Bank Belgrade and the USAID, through the Municipal Economic Growth Activity (MEGA) Program, awarded the first prize at the competition „Invest in Serbia 2010“ to the municipality of Bujanovac, which was the best municipality in the category of „The Best Partnership Project“. The Commercial Bank Belgrade allocated to Bujanovac the funds for making further investments in Bujanovac’s manufacturing and business zone.
