    Belgrade – Responding to a question of a representative of the Albanian minority in the Serbian parliament Saip Kamberi relating to when the students from the first to the fourth grade of primary school in that community would receive free textbooks in Albanian, the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the textbooks would reach them by September 1: 

    “You're absolutely right, since such problems existed in the past, too. There are also problems with textbooks in the Bulgarian and Croatian languages and we shall do our best to resolve them before September 1. The state shall meet all of its obligations towards all of its citizens, but we expect that you yourself and everyone else in Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja fulfill your obligations towards the state and begin paying your bills regularly, as Serbia has the right to collect what belongs to it“, said Prime Minister Vucic.

    Stormy weather accompanied by heavy rain, which swept over the area of the municipality of Medvedja at around 6 am this morning, damaged the asphalt roads and homes in several villages, said the Mayor of Medvedja Slobodan Draskovic.

    Torrential waters completely washed away most of the five-kilometer road leading to the village of Kapit and to the neighborhood of Cokotanci, as well as those leading to the villages of Marovac, Djulekare and Rujkovac.

    The northernmost settlement dating back to the 4 th. and 3rd. centuries BC, which had a complete water-supply system, including a water tank made of stone – Kale Krsevica, has been explored in Krsevica near Bujanovac for as many as 14 years.  Work on the acropolis is in progress, which the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia funds with one million dinars. Both archaeologists and locals are engaged in work at the site.

    Vranje/Bujanovac – A football match between the teams of the Army of Serbia and KFOR was recently played on a big football field in the “Jug” army base near Bujanovac.  The players of both teams played extremely well, while no one remained indifferent to the way the football trio, which was led by Corporal Jasmina Zafirovic Stijelja from Vranje, refereed the game.  Jasmina's excellent referring of the game was a surprise to the members of KFOR, but her colleagues from the Fourth Brigade of the Army knew well that she was undoubtedly the best in the Army of Serbia.

    Vranje – It’s getting increasingly more difficult for the “Electric Power Distribution Company” from Vranje to charge the supplied electricity, especially from the households. Unpaid bills, at the moment, amount to 600 million dinars. The companies owe 165 million dinars.  The outstanding liabilities of the households are two and a half times larger than those of the companies, amounting to 435 million dinars.

    Leskovac – The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selakovic, paid yesterday a visit to Leskovac, where he opened the Office for the Execution of Alternative Prison Sanctions.  When asked to comment on the longtime announcements about the construction of a prison in Medvedja, Minister Selakovic said:

    “It is a sad country where it is considered that the opening of a prison would assist it in the economic sense. When it comes to security, Medvedja is still a volatile area because of the administrative line with Kosovo and the Ground Security Zone. Prisons aren’t built in such zones.  Do you know how many people have gone from the municipality over the last 20 years? I don’t think that the prison would bring them back to Medvedja ".
