It is well known that the Republic of Serbia is facing a huge issue of suppressing the spread of the coronavirus. The Executive Board of the Union of Beekeeping Organizations of Serbia (SPOS) has reached the decision to provide modest assistance to the country, because the help that each of us can provide is not much for us, but it can mean a lot to someone else.

The Executive Board of the SPOS was guided by human solidarity and some other elements. Namely, the Republic of Serbia allocates over 7million euros for beekeeping from the citizens’ taxes every year, and it  also helped the SPOS beekeepers when it was most difficult for them, when the Government of the Republic of Serbia, at the proposal of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic, provided the financial assistance of 50 million dinars for the completion of the honey bee collection and marketing facility of the SPOS "Nas med" doo, which should ensure the future of beekeeping and secure placement of honey at real market prices.

Therefore, the Executive Board is of the view that every SPOS beekeeper should now express solidarity with the most vulnerable population to the coronavirus, namely the citizens over 65 years of age.

Thus, the Executive Board of the SPOS has decided to invite all SPOS beekeepers to allocate only 1 kg of honey each and make it available to the state or the local self-government, which will help the most vulnerable population, with the aim of raising their immunity and providing quality nutrition for our most elderly fellow citizens.  If some beekeepers can donate more than 1 kg of honey, our fellow citizens will certainly appreciate it.

Beekeepers are guided by the motto that what is a small quantity of honey for them is a great quantity of honey for someone else.
