ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE AROUND 100,000 EUROS INTO PRESEVO

Presevo – Serbian customs officers seized around 100,000 euros last weekend in an attempt by one person to smuggle that amount of money to Presevo, the Customs Administration said.

Presevo – Serbian customs officers seized around 100,000 euros last weekend in an attempt by one person to smuggle that amount of money to Presevo, the Customs Administration said.

The violation was discovered late Sunday evening when a BMW with German license plates was set aside at the Horgos border crossing for a detailed inspection at the entrance to the country.

A 50-year-old citizen of the Republic of Serbia, of the Albanian nationality, traveled in it from Germany to Presevo.

When asked if there was anything to declare, the passenger said that there was nothing but his personal belongings and about 10,000 euros.

It turned out that the passenger did not tell the truth at the very beginning of the control when a canvas bag was found in the space for the spare wheel, at the bottom of the trunk.

In addition to the electric tire pump, 35,000 euros and 9,000 US dollars were hidden in it. During further control, an envelope with 36,610 Swiss francs was found inside the sneakers, packed in one of the bags with personal luggage. In addition, another 2,500 euros were found in the passenger's wallet, besides the declared 10,000 euros, found in the pocket of the tracksuit that the passenger was wearing.

Due to the attempt to smuggle more than 96,000 euros in various currencies, the passenger was taken over by the police and the prosecutor's office together with the vehicle and the seized money, according to the Customs Administration.

The undeclared money will be kept until the end of the misdemeanor procedure before the court, the Customs Administration noted.
