Presevo – An attempt to smuggle 50 kilograms of cut tobacco hidden in the trunk space for a spare wheel and under the back seat was prevented by customs officers at the Presevo border crossing, when a "Volkswagen" with the Slovenian license plates arrived for control, with a married couple traveling in it.
According to the Customs Administration, the spouses said that they had with them their personal luggage and some food items for the household.
During a detailed inspection, as many as 50 bags of one kilogram of cut tobacco were found in the factory trunk nook intended for the spare wheel, as well as under the rear seat. The trunk was really full of various vegetables, fruits and nuts, which was probably supposed to divert attention from the undeclared excise goods that were under the upholstery of the trunk, the Customs Administration said.
The tobacco, together with the married couple, was taken over by the police and the Prosecutor's Office for further jurisdiction procedure.
