Belgrade – Twenty-two young people from 14 municipalities in the southeast and southwest of Serbia will launch their businesses with the support of the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, which earmarked, through the European Progress development program, 183,307 euros for the activities aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among young people. Young male and female entrepreneurs, who plan to be engaged in information technologies and design, manufacturing of clothing, processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables, will receive the equipment to start their business operations.

“The European Union and the Government of Switzerland supported young people in the  municipalities covered by the program to develop their business ideas and establish their businesses, which would have a positive effect not only their and their families’ lives, but also on the local economy. In this fashion, young male and female entrepreneurs give an excellent example to their peers, so that we jointly contribute to resolving the issue of unemployment in this segment of the population, "said Graeme Tyndall, the European Progress Program Manager.

“Starting this business has been my goal ever since I finished school, while my intention is to engage other young people from my town in this creative job, "said Nikola Cvetkovic from Vranje, who will, thanks to the support of the European Progress Program, launch his own company that will be dealing with with printing on textiles.

During the public call, the European Progress Program organized nine info sessions that brought together over 200 participants in the project, and received 92 applications.

The European Progress Program will, at the beginning of the young entrepreneurs’ business operations, provide them training and mentoring in the areas of business management, marketing and planning, to ensure the sustainability of their businesses.

The registration of new businesses and the procurement of the equipment will begin in October 2016.

The municipalities covered by the European Progress Program, among others, are the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, too.
