Medvedja – The ceremonial session of the Municipal Emergency Management Staff in Medvedja marked the World Civil Protection Day, which is observed on March 1. The Mayor, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Staff, opened the 23rd Ceremonial Session of the Staff and passed on good wishes to them on the occasion of the Civil Protection Day.

The World Civil Protection Day was established on March 1, 1990 by a decision of the General Assembly of the International Civil Protection Organization.  With the aim of regulating the protection of people, material and cultural property from natural disasters and other disasters in the territory of the municipality, on September 15, 2011, the Assembly of the Municipality of Medvedja adopted a Decision on the Organization and Functioning of Civil Protection. Based on the Law on Emergency Situations, it regulates precisely the subjects of the system of protection and rescue in the territory of the municipality, the organization and functioning of civil protection, the establishment of the municipal headquarters for the Armed Forces and operational expert teams, the appointment of commissioners and deputies, the formation of general purpose units, designation of qualified legal entities for protection and rescue, financing and other matters. 

The following important items were on the agenda: Approval of the minutes of the previous session; Performance Report of the Municipal Emergency Headquarters for 2019; Adoption of the work plan of the Municipal Emergency Management Staff for 2020 and; Award of recognitions to institutions and deserving individuals.

All items on the agenda were adopted unanimously. In a report from the previous year, the focus was on 2019 when there was no need for an emergency situation, but planned water restriction was introduced in the summer due to a drought. The river bed of the Jablanica River was also  rehabilitated and a complete clearing of shrubs and plants over a length of 1.5 km was done.

The work plan of the Staff for 2020 was made with an emphasis on preventive action in the event of fire and difficulties with water supply, including a plan for summer and winter road maintenance, as well as for an alert system. The plan was unanimously adopted,including a wish to have as few crises as possible this year.

On that occasion, acknowledgments and letters of thanks were given to  the individuals and institutions that had distinguished themselves in times of crisis.

The acknowledgments were given to the Health Care Center –  for home-based care, Medvedja Police Station, Medvedja Fire Unit, and Ivica Randjelovic, the Chief of the Emergency Sector from Leskovac.
