Belgrade – The Government of the Republic of Serbia has decided that three billion dinars should be earmarked in the budget for the treatment of patients suffering from rare diseases in 2021. That is the largest amount that has been allocated for these purposes so far.
Considering that the treatment of patients with rare diseases is one of the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, continuity of allocations from the budget has been ensured over the last eight years, it was said in the statement issued after the session of Government.
“Funds were first allocated from the budget for the treatment of rare diseases in 2012, when 130 million dinars were provided for the treatment of eight patients. In 2020, 325 patients were treated for these diseases, for which a total of 2.4 billion dinars was allocated. By a record allocation of funds for this year, the state will provide almost 24 times more money in the budget compared to 2012. The funds are intended for patients who are already undergoing therapy, as well as for those who are just starting treatment," it was said in the statement.
