Things that contributed to a dicrease in the epidemic include the increasing number of children immunized with the MMR vaccine, the fact that students are on vacation, that fewer children are in kindergartens and that people spend more time outdoors.
Darija Kisić Tepavcevic, Assistant Director of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut", says that last year the coverage for the first dose of MMR vaccine, which is given from 12 to 15 months of age, was 85 percent, while it was over 91 percent for the second dose, which children receive when they start going to school. A report on how many children have been vaccinated in Serbia in the first six months of this year has not been done yet, but judging by consumption of the vaccine, it may be concluded that far more children were vaccinated this year than in the previous ones.
