Medvedja – “Upon completion of my studies, I did not intend to return to Medvedja, which is my birth place. I registered with the labor market just for the sake of some formalities, but I got a job immediately after registering, "says Svetlana Todorovic, the Head of the Municipal Administration in the municipality of Medvedja, who is also responsible for the Department of Finance, the Department of Urban Planning and the Department of General Affairs in the municipality of Medvedja.

Viewed in terms of duties and responsibilities, her position is ranked as second in importance in the municipal administration, but she doesn’t perceive it as a function.

“I do not see it as a function, but as a job, especially since it is not a political position. My obligation is to take care of the legality of the administrative work, to coordinate the work of the department, to present the municipal offices before the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Council, to do everything in accordance with their orders and to follow the orders and instructions of the municipal president, "Svetlana says.

She was born in Medvedja. She graduated from the Faculty of Law in Nis, and, in 2010, obtained, a master's degree in land management from the Royal Technical Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, as the only student south of Belgrade. She dreamed of a career in the big city, perhaps even of the one abroad, believing that she would never be able to get employment in her field of study  or find herself in a small and poor Medvedja. 

However, a miracle happened. Right after completion of her studies, she got employed as a lawyer at the Republican Geodetic Institute’s Department in Medvedja, where she deals with tax liens, too.

She was drawn by a project of developing the Real Estate Cadaster, since the real estate property records never existed in South Serbia. The team in which she worked completed the job among the first in Serbia, which she is very proud of, while her studies in Sweden came later on.

I came here looking for a new challenge and became part of the team that carried out projects for the municipality. However, what was crucial was that I recognized that Mayor Arsic is a leader with a great energy and a great desire to do something good for the citizens of Medvedja. I particularly appreciate that he put together a team, the members of which breathe in the same rhythm and do not plod through a job but are sincerely devoted to it, "the young woman said.
