STABLE IN MEDVEDJA

Мedvedja – Goran Ivanovic, the Deputy Mayor of Medvedja and the Deputy Commander of the Emergency Management Staff, said that the situation in Medvedja was "stable”.

“We have had two positive cases and, unfortunately, one person has passed away. Those who have been in touch with them, about 35 persons, are in self-isolation, but so far none of them has reported having respiratory problems. Apart from them, there are 65 people in self-isolation and they are those who have come from abroad.

Mr. Ivanovic states that the administrative border crossing of Mutivode towards Kosovo and Metohija operates, but that people avoid it, because everyone who passes through it is placed in self-isolation.

“There is very little traffic at that border crossing, as a vehicle occasionally goes through it,” Mr. Ivanovic said.

According to him, all necessary measures regarding volunteers, the institutions, the Health Center, the Red Cross Office and the Center for Social Work have been implemented in the municipality of Mevdedja.

“Those are all the activities for improving the living standard of citizens, volunteers go out into the field carrying food and aid. Medvedja is a place with a population of less than 5,000, while citizens over the age of 70 cannot go out, so we try to meet their needs.  We also disinfected the streets and public institutions, buildings, the post office and schools. Everything is practically ready to start operating as soon as this stops. I would like to thank all the businesses and the church that helped us donate some packages to the elderly, " Mr. Ivanovic said.

Given the fact that the municipality of Medvedja covers a large area, our greatest problem at the moment is how to reach elderly households.

“There are not many residents in 524 square kilometers. Those are mostly elderly households, and since public transport has been abolished, they now do not even have the possibility of being transported. That is why the local government with its volunteers is here to meet their needs, "Mr. Ivanovic says.
