Presevo – Customs officers on the Presevo border crossing prevented an attempt at smuggling from Serbia over 110, 000 electric motors valued at more than 100,000 euros.
The driver of the truck that was transporting the goods from Germany to Macedonia, who is a Macedonian citizen, submitted to the customs officers the documents in which it was stated that the truck carried electric cables, oil coolers, hand tools and car spare parts weighing about 8 tons.
Upon reviewing the documentation, the customs officers decided to carry out a control weighing of the truck, when it was discovered that instead of eight tons of cargo, the truck carried 1,400 kilograms of goods more than reported.
Therefore, the complete unloading of the truck was ordered, after which it was discovered that, in addition to the goods declared, the truck’s cargo contained over 110, 000 undocumented electric motors for the automomobile industry.
Since the truck driver is a foreign national, the criminal offense was dealt with in accordance with emergency procedure. As the value of the goods exceeded one-third of the value of the vehicle in which they were smuggled, the undeclared goods were seized, as well as the “Volvo” truck, the value of which is 92,000 euros and the truck trailer valued at 22, 500 euros, while a fine of 100,000 dinars was also charged.
