Medvedja – The second honey festival was held in Medvedja under the auspices of the Municipality of Medvedja and the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.

Milos Jovic, the Head of the “Apis” Beekeepers Association, welcomed the attendees of the event.   He recalled that the association had been founded by seven young beekeepers in 2017, adding that it currently had 37 members, which is a clear indication of the development of that branch of agriculture in Medvedja.

Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, underscored that further development of the municipality of Medvedja was expected, since it had been shown that investing in activities such as the honey festival was not financially large but that it produced great results.

“This association has great potential for the development of bee-keeping, while a large number of young people have decided to get engaged in beekeeping, and it is now up to the state to enable the placement of honey on the foreign market, " Mr. Stankovic said.

The Municipality of Medvedja joined the Youth Employment Incentive Project in October 2017 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the GIZ. By donating the equipment, the said German organization provided significant assistance to our young beekeepers, which is of utmost importance to our municipality,” said Milan Stevanovic, the President of the Medvedja Municipal Assembly. The municipality of Medvedja is increasing the budget intended for farmers, since this territory has great potential for the development of agriculture and cattle-breeding, Mr. Stevanovic said.

Apart from the bee products of exhibitors from Medvedja and the surrounding area, visitors to the festival also enjoyed the performance of "small bees", which was performed by children from the pre-school institution "Mladost", as well as the performance of the "Playful Kolo Dance".
