As part of the traditional campaign for Roma Women's Activism Month, on March 8, which is the International Women's Day, the Roma Women's Network launched a campaign called “Early Marriage is not Part of Roma Culture – Find Out, Don't Judge!
The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to stereotypes and prejudices, which are a common cause of discrimination against Roma men and women. At the heart of this year's campaign, which runs until April 8, the International Roma Day, is the fight against the stereotype that early marriages are a Roma tradition.
On the eve of the campaign, on March 6 and 7, a two-day training was held in Belgrade to strengthen the capacities of members and activists of the Roma Women's Network (RWN), which aims to help participants improve their existing and acquire new knowledge and skills in the field of public speaking, use of social networks and preparing media announcements for the purpose of promoting the activities they carry out.
The training was organized by the “Ternipe” association, with the support of the German Development Cooperation’s project "Inclusion of Roma and Other Marginalized Groups in Serbia", which is implemented by the German International Cooperation Organization GIZ.
