Меdvedja – The local self-government of Medvedja announced that it had undertaken a series of activities to repair the damage recently caused by floods and winds, because of which the population was without roads, electricity and flooded.

They state that the help of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia’s teams from all over the country has arrived, that the power generator has been procured until the electricity reaches every house, that the residents have received food packages, and that the roads are being cleared.

“In addition to the workers of the Medvedja Power Distribution Company, who are making maximum efforts to enable uninterrupted electricity supply to our villages in really extreme conditions, the locals also came to the rescue. They joined in to clear the roads of fallen trees and make it possible for the electricians to access the electricity grid.

At the session of the Emergency Situations Staff of the Municipality of Medvedja, a decision was reached that due to the damage caused to the road infrastructure, as well as a major damage caused to the electricity distribution grid, it was necessary to urgently procure packages with basic foodstuffs to help the endangered population of the Medvedja municipality, as well as power generators for those who had no electricity for the longest time.

Volunteers from the municipality of Medvedja prepared 1, 000 aid packages, for which 1,200,000.00 dinars had been allocated from the municipal budget. The distribution of packages with basic foodstuffs, as well as of power generators in the most endangered parts of our municipality, started on Saturday. The distribution of packages with basic foodstuffs to the endangered population in the territory of the municipality of Medvedja has resumed today.

In addition to the Public Utility Company "Obnova" from Medvedja, which is in charge of winter road maintenance, we have also included additional contractors, and they are all in the field.  The clearing is going on according to plan, and I am especially glad that the teams turned on the electricity at the repeaters of Djoravica and Rasovaca, so that we will finally get mobile telephony and a television signal. We, along with the teams, are non-stop in the field and I expect that we will have a much more favorable situation as of tomorrow.

The Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (SCC) also donated aid packages for the population of the municipality of Medvedja, while the aid arrived in the form of a power generator and a field vehicle for the Health Center in Medvedja, so that medical teams could reach the snow-covered villages," Nebojsa Arsic, the President of the Municipality of Medvedja, said.

He thanked all the workers of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia, volunteers, his associates and locals, "who are working together on making it possible for us to get, as soon as possible, out of the emergency situation that has befallen us," the local self-government said in a statement.
