Medvedja – Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, held a meeting in his office with Bojan Maricic, a representative of the European Progress program. The meeting was attended by his colleagues from the Office for Local Economic Development. The European Progress program, which is funded by the European Union and the Governments of Switzerland and the Republic of Serbia, continues the analysis of the competitiveness of 34 local self-governments, which was initiated as part of the European Partnership with Municipalities Program, which includes the municipality of Medvedja, too.

The aim of the "Competitiveness Index and the Capacities of Local Self-Governments (IKKLSU)" project is to provide to local self-governments a tool for quantifying the value of their own resources, potential and capacities, as well as to provide a clearer picture of the current level of their competitiveness. The said project should also enable the comparison of the capacity and resources with those of other local self-governments and identify the gaps to be filled, in order to improve the municipal business environment and the overall level of competitiveness.

The project makes it possible for one to track the progress of the development of local self-government at the level of inputs, outputs and impacts based on the consistent analysis of quantitative and qualitative data on local resources and potentials, on the one hand, and the capacity of local self-governments to manage them, on the other.  The specific objective of the project is to determine the existing competitiveness at the local level and to set the priority of further reforming the way public resources are managed and the community’s potential used.

The project was carried out by the Local Economic Development Office in Medvedja, under the auspices of the European Progress program.
