QUARANTINE STORIES WEBINAR – REAL VIRUS AND FAKE NEWS

What can be fake in fake news? Why are fake news and misinformation so successful? Why is it easier to believe in them in the conditions when there is a danger to our health? And finally, how to recognize and resist them? These are some of the questions that will be asked as part of the new webinar "The Real Virus and Fake News," which takes place on Thursday (May 7) from 6pm onwards.

What can be fake in fake news? Why are fake news and misinformation so successful? Why is it easier to believe in them in the conditions when there is a danger to our health? And finally, how to recognize and resist them? These are some of the questions that will be asked as part of the new webinar "The Real Virus and Fake News," which takes place on Thursday (May 7) from 6pm onwards

Along with the onset of the pandemic, an infodemia knocked on our door.

We are focused on the news we receive through the media as they concern our health and the health of our loved ones. It is understandable that we seek reliable information, guidance and advice. However, under the given circumstances, we are all extra sensitive and liable to untruths and uncritical thinking.

Bits of fake news are everywhere, from those that the virus has spread through bat soup to the spread of the virus through the cell phone network.  During the webinar, the following persons will speak about how big the power of fake news is and how media literacy skills help us to defend ourselves:

Dr. Marijan Ivanusha, World Health Organization representative for Serbia

Tijana Femic Bumbic, Fake news Seeker / Novi Sad School of Journalism

Sasa Mirkovic, media literacy expert on the project Support for Media Reforms in Serbia

Moderator: Dragan Ilic, journalist and psychologist
