PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF THE FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE OPENING OF INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN PRESEVO AND BUJANOVAC

BUJANOVAC – The Center for Non-Violent Resistance and the Center for Educational Policies are going to present the preliminary results of a feasibility study for the opening of institutions of higher learning in Presevo and Bujanovac at the Small Room of the Community Center in Bujanovac at 10 am on February 18, 2010. The study resulted from a several months’ long research, which was conducted as part of the „Reform of the Educational Policy in South Serbia“ project, which systematized the elements of educational system in Serbia and perceived the comparative experiences from the region, based on which the possible scenarios for future activities will be offered.

The preliminary results will be presented by Jana Bacevic, PhD, the Leader of the Center for Non-Violent Resistance and the Center for Educational Policies’ research team. The two aforementioned organizations are non-governmental organizations that are preparing the study. A public discussion on the final results of the study is planned thereafter, and it will include the comments of representatives of all communities in Presevo and Bujanovac.      

 

The presentation of preliminary results of the study will be attended by representatives of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Robert Schupp, Sebastian Dworack and Marianne Mahaffey. Representatives of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja are also going to take part in the discussion.

 

The conduct of the study was financially assisted by the Fund for an Open Society, the UK Department for International Development, the Balkan Trust for Democracy and the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.  The presentation of the feasibility study and final results will be organized in Belgrade on March 3, 2010.
