Bujanovac – The parents of the students of “Branko Radicevic” primary school in Bujanovac decided to fix up the schoolyard, so that they got hold of their brushes and paints, and said that that was just the beginning and that the action of procuring radiators for the school would follow.

The idea of engaging parents in fixing up the schoolyard originated from the Parents' Council of that school and it was supported by the School Principal, Nenad Tasic. Fifteen or so parents, along with the students, began repairing and painting the worn-out benches and baskets for collecting bottles.

“We agreed at the meeting of the Parents’ Council to do something for the school, for our children. This is not a lot, but it will certainly mean a lot to them and we will try to embellish the space where they spend a good part of the day. This action will not end our engagement, since our intention is to initiate many more important things, such as purchasing the radiators, because heating is currently the biggest problem at the school,” said Boban Stojanovic, one of the parents.

According to him, parents have so far managed to provide four radiators, however, many more radiators are needed for all the children to be warm in the classrooms in the coming winter.

They are counting on the help of the local self-government and businessmen.

“We need to resolve the issue of heating urgently. We need around 20 radiators with the accessories, which costs about 350,000 dinars. These are large funds and we will try to secure the money in cooperation with the line Ministry and local self-government.  Of course, the parents' help in providing better conditions for the children in every way, be it painting the benches, tidying up the playground or procuring the radiators, is more than welcome and all members of the school staff welcome their initiative, "said School Principal Tasic.

The parents' action was praised by the students themselves, and some of them came to their aid.

"The benches were destroyed, so that we had nowhere to sit during the big break. It is nice that they have been repaired them and we will help with painting, "says Kevin Dzaferovic, an eight-grader.

The “Megal” company and “Our Joy” preschool institution helped with the first action by having provided the paint. The help was symbolic, but the parents were certainly grateful for it.
