OPERATION OF THE SOUP KITCHEN IN PRESEVO

Presevo – The soup kitchen in Presevo has about 400 beneficiaries, half of whom live in remote local communities and villages, where their meals are taken to, so that they could get one meal a day for free.

Presevo – The soup kitchen in Presevo has about 400 beneficiaries, half of whom live in remote local communities and villages, where their meals are taken to, so that they could get one meal a day for free.

Ahmet Haljimi, the Secretary of the Red Cross Branch Office in Presevo, says that there are a lot of vulnerable rural households in the municipality of Presevo.

The Red Cross Branch Office in Presevo has, therefore, decided to open soup kitchen points in four villages with the greatest number of soup kitchen beneficiaries, as well as in the Train Station settlement at the entrance of Preševo, where food is distributed on a daily basis.

“The same kind of food is transported to the Train Station settlement, as well as to the villages of Slavujevac, Svinjiste, Miratovac and Madjere, by our van every day. The food is distributed, because socially vulnerable, and often elderly, people live there, who are unable to come to Presevo, since that would not pay off to them, "Mr. Haljimi said.

Apart from the Red Cross of Serbia, the operation of the soup kitchen in Presevo is financially supported by the local self-government that covers the soup kitchen’s labor costs and electricity bills.

“The municipality of Presevo was among the last municipalities in Serbia to get a soup kitchen. Our needs are perhaps even greater but for now, in the first three months of the soup kitchen’s operation, we have covered the most vulnerable beneficiaries, "Mr. Haljimi said.

The Presevo soup kitchen started operating on July 15 this year, while the food preparation equipment was obtained with the help of the German NGO "Help".
