The Trag Foundation has been implementing the Active Communities Program for 20 years, during which 630 initiatives of informal groups and associations in over 200 communities throughout Serbia have been supported to date. The program monitors the needs of citizens’ associations, and financially and in other ways supports them to realize their ideas that contribute to the development and improvement of their communities.

The Trag foundation supports citizens' associations and informal groups that:

• Initiate and actively involve male and female citizens in their activities,
• Represent the general interests of their community, 
• Have annual income that does not exceed 1,200,000.00 dinars (for associations) and
• Are located in the territory of the Republic of Serbia 

Informal groups include groups of at least three people who are gathered around solving problems in the community and are not formally registered.

The Trag Foundation believes that associated citizens recognize the needs of their communities the best, and the "Active Communities" program opens up space for diverse projects that contribute to the development of communities.  Communities can be local, ethnic minority communities, members of various marginalized groups, LGBT communities, online communities, and so on.

The competition for the "Active Communities" program is open until July 14, 2019.

Permanent support to the program is provided by the Balkan Trust for Democracy (BTD) and the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation. The program is implemented with the support of the Coca-Cola HBC Serbia and Montenegro company.
