Presevo – The Leader of the Democratic Union of Albanians Rahmi Zulfiju said that fees for the insurance of passenger vehicles from Presevo and Bujanovac weren’t charged at the administrative-line crossings with Kosovo and Metohija as of midnight yesterday. The said fee used to be 20 euros per week.
Mr. Zulfiju, whose party is part of the coalition of the Albanians, which has one seat in the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, stated that the abolition of the fee for the insurance of vehicles is a great relief to the household budgets of many people from Presevo and Bujanovac, who often travel to Kosovo and Metohija to work or because of family ties.
"Exempt from the taxation are only passenger vehicles, while freight vehicles shall continue to pay taxes," said Mr.Zulfiju.
According to him, the government of Kosovo and Metohija adopted a decree on the abolition of taxes on vehicles from Presevo and Bujanovac at the initiative of the political leaders of ethnic Albanians from these municipalities.
The fee was introduced in late 2011, following an agreement reached between Belgrade and Pristina. The said vehicle fee affected most the Albanians living in Presevo and Bujanovac, as well as the Serbs living in the Morava River region of Kosovo and Metohija.
