Medvedja – Aleksandar Vulin, Minister for Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, signed with representatives of 123 local self-governments from all over Serbia, including the municipality of Medvedja, the contracts on transfers earmarked for the development of the existing and the establishment of new roles of social protection in the local self-governments that are below the national average level of development.

Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, signed, on behalf of the municipality, the contract on special-purpose transfers in Belgrade.

Special-purpose transfers totaling 400 million dinars were provided from the budget of the Republic of Serbia and are intended for all local self-governments, while 2,492,953.94 dinars will be transferred to municipality of Medvedja for financing social protection services.

The municipality of Medvedja belongs to the local self-governmental units, whose level of development is below the level of the Republic, so that special-purpose transfers shall be granted  regardless of the secured participation in the financing of social services in its jurisdiction. Among the services to be financed by these funds are daily community services (day care services, day care center, help round the house), accommodation at the shelter, assignment of personal assistants to disabled children and other services according to the needs and priorities of the municipality of Medvedja.

This method of financing will establish a balanced development of social protection in the whole of Serbia. Social service providers at the local level may be public, civil and private sectors, provided they meet the requirements prescribed by the law.
