President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Zoran Stankovic said today that imposition of conditions never brought any good to anyone, so that it wouldn’t bring any good to the Albanian leaders from the area, who had laid them down, either, and he pointed out that only talks could solve the problems.

Mr. Stankovic said that he expected that both sides would return to the negotiating table very soon and he pointed out that the Serbian government was committed to continuing the talks that should resolve all the issues that representatives of the Albanian community considered to be problematic.  

Speaking of the Albanian leaders’ request regarding the distribution of courts and prosecutors' offices in the area, Mr. Stankovic said that their number was determined by the number of cases per judge. 

Regarding the issue, Mr. Stankovic stressed that the composition of the population had to be taken into account, as well as that some of the criteria, not only in that environment, had to be changed and adjusted a little.  

He also said that a notary service was being established, which would take over a large deal of work from the courts, that notaries would be operating in that area, too, and that a “judging day” would be set in Presevo,  when the judges would come there.

“Only talks can resolve all these dilemmas that were artificially created”, said Mr. Stankovic, who explained that the use of the flag of the national community was governed by the law.  

According to him, some details on the Albanian flag, which the Albanians hoist during their celebrations, must be different from those displayed on the flag of the state of Albania.  

Speaking of the talks with representatives of the Albanian community, Mr. Stankovic said that it was important that those talks were “witnessed” by someone that would guarantee that the agreement was reached, which was the role of the OSCE, and about which other international organizations were informed.
