Vranje, Presevo – Milisav Milickovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, said during a meeting with the leadership of the Vranje Police Department and the Mayor of that city, Slobodan Milenkovic, PhD, that the security and safety situation in the seven municipalities of Pcinj District was stable that year.

The senior police official said that the number of crimes and offenses committed in the field of public peace and order were reduced in the area covered by members of the Vranje Police Department, as well as that there were no inter-ethnic conflicts and incidents. From January to October of this year, the number of crimes decreased by 109 compared to the same period last year.  85.7 percent of the robberies were solved and of the 28 stolen vehicles, 26 were found.

There are no unsolved murders in South Serbia. This year, police and customs officers confiscated cigarettes, tobacco and oil, the value of which is 2.5 million dinars.

"It is very important that the citizens have confidence in the police. Trust in the police is strengthened by implementing community policing on a daily basis and by working in partnership with the local self-governments and other institutions," Mr. Milickovic said.

The State Secretary, along with the Head of the Vranje Police Department, Milenko Bozovic, visited the Regional Center of the Border Police on the Serbian-Macedonian border, as well as the border police station in Presevo.

“Serbia is a safe and secure country. This was made possible by police officers that are doing a very complex and responsible job around the clock. Police officers have been showing a high degree of professionalism since the beginning of the migrant crisis, both in their approach to the migrants and in providing all the conditions for the citizens to feel safe," Mr.Milickovic pointed out.

State Secretary of the Serbian Interior Ministry said that, during nine months of the year, the police, in cooperation with other security services, had uncovered 58 criminal offenses of unauthorized crossing of the state border and human trafficking.

97 offenders were prosecuted. It was also said that 5,773,806 passengers had underwent control at the Presevo border crossing that year, which is by 900,000 passengers more than the previous year.  State Secretary Milisav Milickovic visited the stationary patrol on Maminsko brdo, which uses a special vehicle for the supervision and control of the state border.
