Nis, Vranje, Leskovac – In comparison with the previous years, more couples are getting divorced than married in the southern Serbian cities, according to the latest data from the Republic Statistical Office (RSO).

According to the RSO data, about 750 fewer marriages were concluded in southern Serbia in 2019 compared to 2015.

On the other hand, there are more divorces in this part of the country. In 2019, around 500 more spouses got divorced compared to 2018 and around 700 more than in 2015, the "South Serbia News" portal repots.

The only place in the southern part of the country where there were no divorces last year is Crna Trava, where only one couple got married in that period.

Marriages have an enviable advantage in Presevo, where 14 times more couples got married than those who got divorced, as well as in Bujanovac, where people got married seven times more than they got divorced in 2019. There are many more people who get married than those who get divorced in Vranje, too.

Last year, 1,408 couples got married in Nis, and there were 436 divorces, while in Leskovac, 555 couples swore to eternal love, while 181 signed divorce lawsuits, which is almost twice as many than two years earlier.

Statistical records show that men and women get married later, but also get divorced later. The average age for the groom is 34.5, and for the bride 31.3.

When it comes to divorces, the average age of the husband is 44.2, while the average age of the wife is 40.6.
