Bujanovac, Belgrade – The Ministry, among other things, stated:
“We absolutely reject the claim of representative of the municipality of Bujanovac that the Government of the Republic of Serbia attempted in any way to manipulate the number of inhabitants in South of Serbia. It is the political leaders of Albanians who by their irresponsible decision to boycott the 2011 census violated the trust that was built in that part of Serbia for a decade."
Simultaneously, while commenting on the only available Albanian version of the new website of the municipality of Bujanovac, the Ministry also stated:
“Each municipality in Serbia, regardless of who is in power in it, has to provide the necessary information to all citizens and the entire public both in the Serbian language and the language of national minority that is officially used. In this way, the Bujanovac leadership misleads the entire public and discriminates against the residents of the municipality who cannot speak the Albanian language! "
The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government sent a warning to the municipality of Bujanovac on the consistent implementation of the Law on the Official Use of Language and Script, the Law on Local Self-Government and the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.
The Ministry set a deadline for removing the identified shortcomings, which will be followed by a close inspection and if the irregularities are not removed, it shall proceed in accordance with the law.
