The Minister of Environmental Protection, Irena Vujovic, called on the local self-governments to report illegal waste dumps in their territory by February 11, 2021 at the latest, for the purpose of jointly solving the problem.
“There is almost no city and municipality in Serbia that does not have a problem with illegal waste dumps. That is why we decided to provide support to local self-governments, so that we could jointly solve it”, Minister Vujovic said.
According to her, it will no longer be possible for illegal waste dumps to continue to exist due to lack of funds in the local budget, because the relevant Ministry is determined to help local self-governments to clean them up and remove them.
“In the coming period, we will be working intensively on solving the problem of illegal waste dumps, which pollute the land, watercourses, air and lead to environmental degradation, but we will also demand from local self-governments to step up inspection supervision over negligent waste disposal", the Minister said.
On February 5, the Ministry of Environmental Protection published a call to local self-governmental units to submit the data on the locations of illegal waste dumps in their territory, as well as to state the approximate amount of waste and the approximate estimate of the costs for their removal.
The data submission deadline is February 11, 2021 at 4 p.m. The necessary data should be e-mailed kabinet@ekologija.gov.rs . Those local self-governments that have doubts and questions regarding this initiative can turn to the same address.
