As part of the CITIES IN FOCUS program, the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia announced a competition called Cities in Focus 2018, which provides an opportunity for local self-governmental units (LSUs) to improve, together with the institutions, artistic and other organizations registered for conducting activities in the sphere of culture, individuals ( artists, associates and experts in culture), as well as other stakeholders in the field of culture, their capacities in the sphere of culture and their cultural offers. The selected LSUs will get the City in Focus titles, which will enable them to be recognized as relevant national centers of culture and, thus, become more visible on the cultural map of the Republic of Serbia.

The subject of the competition is to encourage local development by providing support to the annual programs of cultural activities that are undertaken in the territory of the selected LSU. The LSUs should submit their annual program proposals in the form of documentation for the competition or projects.

The competition is open for all local self- governments in the Republic of Serbia. The applicant is solely the LSU (city or municipality).

When selecting the LSUs, special attention will be paid to uniform regional representation.

Apart from the fact that the Cities in Focus program is financed by the Ministry and LSUs, special care will be taken about the existence of other sources of (co) financing, which  the LSUs should provide in their budgets.

Applications forms should be submitted in printed and electronic form to the Ministry by January 26, 2018.

The decision on the selected projects and the amounts of allocated funds will be issued not later than March 27, 2018.

The competition’s results will be posted on the Ministry’s official website.
