Leskovac – Branko Ruzic, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, said in Leskovac that "members of the national minorities, as loyal citizens of Serbia, certainly have the chance to promote their values and, while inheriting their tradition, do that within the state of Serbia".
When asked by a reporter whether he expected Albanians to participate in the elections for the National Council in the context of negotiations on Kosovo and Metohija and the demands for the annexation of the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja to Kosovo and Metohija, he said that "he does not expect any problems."
"The elections for National Minority Councils were called for November 4. The most important thing is that we did everything that was needed. We were able, on the eve of elections, to improve the legal framework and adopt a set of minority laws," Minister Ruzic said.
As he said, he "would not to give exclusivity to any minority community in Serbia."
"I think it is a great treasure that almost 30 percent of Serbia's population belong to ethnic minorities," he said.
Minister Ruzic expects that "everyone will exercise their right to participate in the elections on November 4, that they would submit their lists and, subsequently, that the national councils would further improve their work, while promoting their values that are a genuine treasure of Serbia".
