Vranje – A meeting under the slogan of "Together against Discrimination", which was organized by the Youth Forum for the Education of Roma from Bujanovac, the Roma Cultural Center from Vranjska Banja and the Civil Rights Defenders NGO, was held in Vranje.
“The topic discussed at the meeting was the prohibition of discrimination in society, because human rights do not make it possible for people to be treated differently because they look or think differently, "said Kenan Rasitovic, the Coordinator of the Youth Forum for the Education of Roma from Bujanovac.
Mr. Rasitovic stated that any discrimination was "unjustifiable".
"Discrimination occurs when one unjustifiably differentiates between people just because they are different because of something," Kenan Rasitovic said.
It was said at the meeting that Serbia had good laws and that discrimination was prohibited in it, as well as that there were cases of discriminatory behavior in the country towards men and women with disabilities, people of other religions or national backgrounds, and those of a different sexual orientation.
“There are cases of the gravest forms of discrimination. For instance, a disabled Roma woman can be discriminated against because she is a woman, Roma and is disabled,"Mr. Rasitovic said.
The meeting in Vranje on the prohibition of discrimination was attended by activists of the Roma minority from Vranje, Bujanovac and Vranje Spa, as well as by Altena Asanovic, a representative of the Roma Office in Vranje.
