MEDVEDJA: MEETING ON CLEANING THE POWER GRID HELD WITH MEMBERS OF THE ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY OF SERBIA

Medvedja – At the initiative of Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor, a meeting was held in Medvedja between representatives of the local communities from the municipality of Medvedja and the management of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia from Lebane on the problem of supply of the customers from local communities with electricity.

The meeting was, on behalf of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia, attended by Aleksandar Dimitrijevic, the Head of the Unit in Lebane and electric power distribution system operator and Ljiljana Golubovic, the Head of the Unit’s Technical Center in Lebane.

The aim of the meeting was to find a solution for the frequent interruptions in electricity supply, as well as for the inadequately cleaned electrical grid.

Mr. Dimitrijevic said that the priority job of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia was to call a tender for the ongoing cleaning and maintenance of the grid, after which they could engage people who would be trained in cleaning the plants and trees that obstruct and cause interruptions in electricity supply to the end users.

“The region of the municipality of Medvedja is large, while its electrical grid differs from those in other parts of the country. The area is mostly woodland, while the houses are dispersed, so that all those things cause the problem," Ljiljana Golubovac said.

“Zarko Djordjevic, the Director of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia’s branch office in  Medvedja, said that on several occasions they had, with their own funds, cleared about 50 trees that hindered the power grid, but that is was not enough and that they had to find a long-term solution, as the little new trees were springing up and they were faced with the same problem.

“It is normal to have power failures in winter, because of the heavy snow and emergency situations and our people understand it, but there are power outages during nice weather, too, when people call us and complain that they have no power, due to which their electrical devices suffer from poor power supply and constant interruptions in power supply. These people do not ask for too much, but for the most basic thing of being regularly supplied with electricity, for which they pay. We are aware of the situation and that the Electric Power Industry of Serbia is doing everything in its power. We have excellent cooperation with Aleksandar Antic, the Minister of Energy and Mining, as well as with Milorad Grcic, Director of the PE Electric Power Industry of Serbia, and we will present the problem to them, hoping that it will be resolved as soon as possible. In our earlier talks with them, an alternative power supply was discussed, which would ensure neither good nor poor power supply,” Mayor Arsic said.
