Vranje – According to the data of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, 67.5 million EUR were invested in development of South Serbia over the past ten years. The said amount doesn’t include considerable funds of non-governmental, governmental and international organizations, embassies and governments of several countries of the world that were channeled into development of South Serbia. Over the past ten years, most of the funds, 22.7 million EUR, were earmarked in the budget for the implementation of various projects in the municipality of Bujanovac, 21.8 million EUR for projects in the municipality of Medvedja and 18.7 million EUR for projects in the municipality of Presevo, while the remaining 4.7 million EUR were invested in other southern Serbian municipalities.
Slobodan Draskovic, President of the Municipality of Medvedja, to whose every citizen the average of 2,000 EUR were “given”, over the past ten years, from the Serbian government’s budget, says: “If it hadn’t been for the financial assistance provided by the Serbian government and the Coordination Body over the past ten years, I’m not sure what this municipality would have looked like today and if more than 5,000 people would have lived in it”. He also said that thanks to the funds collected from the Serbian tax payers, poor Medvedja smartened up Sijarinska Spa and the rehabilitation center, built a community center, a sports hall and a water polo pool, asphalted 160 km of roads and constructed 13 bridges.
“We reconstructed the city center and the main street in Presevo. We also built the green market in Presevo, reconstructed and enlarged the community center, asphalted the Miratovac-Rajince road and built several public facilities,” said Ragmi Mustafa, President of the Municipality of Presevo.
Over the same period, a secondary school was constructed in Bujanovac, an elementary school in the center of Bujanovac was renovated, the Lucane-Dobrosin road was asphalted, a few water supply and sewage systems were built, as well as several public facilities, said Saip Kamberi, President of the Municipality of Bujanovac.
Presidents of the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja are of the view that these funds, over the past ten years, provided the infrastructural conditions for the arrival of major investors and for the necessary opening of new working places.
