Medvedja – By allocating 30 million dinars from the municipal budget, 20 local roads to villages and hamlets in the mountainous area, totaling about 44 kilometers in length, will be fixed up in the territory of the municipality of Medvedja by the end of this year's construction season.
At the same time, PE Roads of Serbia is working on the so-called rehabilitation and asphalting of another 15 kilometers of roads, including a road to Lece, as well as on the rehabilitation of landslides near the Lece mine. The remaining five kilometers of the section of the main road between Lebane and Medvedja will also be paved by asphalt, while the total funds invested by the state in this area amount to about 200 million dinars.
"There is no life without roads. That is why we insist that a large number of communications to the mountainous villages be enabled for the movement of vehicles. In addition to the help that comes from the state, we try to allocate as much money for these purposes from the local budget. This year, a heavy rainfall has destroyed some of the infrastructure and all these problems will be repaired before the winter, while a large number of roads will be filled with mound and brought to the level of being ready for asphalting. We also have to deal with the construction of canals, to protect what has been done from the atmospheric waters, "explains Nebojsa Arsic, the number one man of the local self-government in Medvedja,
He says that an additional 27 million dinars are being invested from the municipal budget for regular maintenance of the existing road infrastructure, which involves "re-coating" of priority sections with new asphalt, and repairing holes in the roads.
Considering that this is a very sprawling municipal district and there is not enough money in the local cash register for all these needs, the people from Medvedja are counting on the help of the state, which they say has been very important so far, and significantly contributes to the survival of the population in remote villages.
The authorities in the municipal self- government of Medvedja state that the money earmarked for the reconstruction of road infrastructure will be spent on works in most local communities, in accordance with predefined criteria and priorities. Currently, work is underway in Sijarina, while works on the roads to the villages of Djulekara, Retkocer, Bucumet, Gajtan, Stubla, Borovac and Vrapce are being planned.
