Presevo – „Thanks to the efforts of the local self-government, which organizes and funds the transportation of school children, there are almost no school children in Presevo who walk to and from school, although a large number of them live in the villages that are over ten kilometers away from the nearest school,” said Gazmend Seljmani, the Chief of Staff of the Presevo Mayor’s Office.
Mr. Seljmani said that 300 elementary school children, as well as those who attend mandatory preschool classes, were covered by transportation.
“Children of school and pre-school age have been provided transportation to school, or to pre-school institutions, as well as the transportation to their homes when the school is over.
“Eligible to use school transportation are all children that live at least three kilometers away from the school they attend,” Mr. Seljmani said.
Mr. Seljmani said that such a practice had existed in the municipality of Presevo for several years, and that it would continue to exist during the school year, too.
“The municipality of Presevo is one of the poorest municipalities in Serbia, and we believe that it is necessary to provide help to its residents in a pragmatic manner, "Mr. Seljmani said.
