Medvedja – The local self-government in Medvedja hired 20 persons for public works, who would, until the end of the year, maintain public hygiene, help the elderly and socially disadvantaged persons, and take part in the rehabilitation of the protective zone of thermal springs and the quay in Sijarinska Spa.

The municipality of Medvedja and the local branch of the National Employment Office jointly allocated two million dinars for those purposes.

Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, says that every job, even a temporary one, is very important in an underdeveloped municipality.  Six workers will be at the disposal of the management of the public utility company "Obnova", while seven workers will be available to the Health Center and Special Hospital for Rehabilitation "Geyser" in Sijarinska Spa each.

“We are trying to gradually change the appearance Medvedja, so that the facades are getting a new look, while we are also renovating the health center. The "Gornja Jablanica" elementary school will celebrate its 130th birthday in new “attire”. There is also a lot of work regarding the new public lighting in several streets and the construction of the storm sewer, which is our perennial problem, "Mayor Arsic said and announced that several dozens of his fellow citizens would be temporarily employed for the projects implemented by the local-self-government.

In mid-November, 20 university graduates will start working at the local administration, while their salaries will be funded with five million dinars from the UNDP project and the municipal budget each.

Medvedja also allocated two and a half million dinars for the work of 20 assisted living caregivers, and the second tranche of funds earmarked for strengthening the farms through the purchase of the equipment and the expansion of production was paid to the farmers.

The residents of Medvedja will also be able to turn to the local self-government for free legal aid, whereas one lawyer will be hired in the Municipal Administration by the Balkan Center for Migration and Humanitarian Activities.
