    The municipality of Bujanovac established the Economic Council, which consists of businessmen and representatives of the local self-government. The Economic Council has 16 members, while President of the Economic Council hasn’t yet been appointed.

    The World Bank and the Republic of Serbia in principle agreed on a loan amounting to 388 million dinars, which will be used for completion of Corridor 10, the above-mentioned financial organization stated yesterday.

    The bank is going to participate in the funding of an 84 km – long highway section between Prosek and Dimitrovgrad, as well as of a 74 km – long highway section   between Leskovac and Levosaj, which is situated close to the Serbian-Macedonian border, while the remaining funds are going to be provided from the Hellenic Plan and the loans extended by other international banks.

    Knut Vollebaek, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, talked with Nenad Djurdjevic, Director of the Coordination Body’s Office, about the position of ethnic minorities in South Serbia. The meeting was attended by Hans Ola Urstad, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, as well as by his associates.

    The representatives of the OSCE and Coordination Body agreed that the most important topics in South Serbia included the establishment of multi-ethnic governments in Bujanovac and Presevo…

    The new Head of the OSCE Office in Bujanovac is Jeroen de Vries, a Dutchman. He has replaced Martin Brooks, who was transferred to the EULEX Office in Pristina. So far, Mr. de Vries has been with the UN Mission to Cambodia, the UNHCR Mission to Rwanda, the OSCE Missions to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, as well as with other international missions. The OSCE Office in Bujanovac was opened in 2001, after the armed conflicts in South Serbia had been brought to an end.

    The Conflict Prevention Center, which is a Japanese non-governmental organization, donated 100,000 EUR for the implementation of an environmental project “Clean Environment” in Bujanovac. As part of the aforementioned project, the municipality is to get eight rubbish collection and removal vans, while three schools, as participants in the project, will get the rubbish collection equipment.

Participants in the meeting included Mladjan Djordjevic, Advisor on Kosovo and Metohija to the Serbian President Boris Tadic, Marko Jaksic, Vice President of the Serbian municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija and Dragan Nikolic, Governor of the Kosovo-Pomoravlje district.

    Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Serbia, Alexander Konuzin, visited South Serbia on February 2 and 3, 2009. The visit was organized with support of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. During the visit, Ambassador Konuzin met with local self-governments’ officials, as well as with representatives of the Serbian political groups in the municipal assemblies of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. The goal of Ambassador Konuzin’s visit was his familiarization with political and economic situation in South Serbia.

    During his tour of Presevo and Bujanovac, Ambassador Konuzin, Vice President of the Coordination Body Sima Gazikalovic and Director of the Coordination Body Nenad Djurdjevic met with Mayors of Presevo and Bujanovac, Nader Sadiku and Saip Kamberi, as well as with Presidents of the Municipal Assemblies, Ragmi Mustafa and Jonuz Musliu.
