Medvedja – Over the past few days, the OSCE Mission to Serbia organized and financed the training of employees of the Medvedja self- government to operate the Geographic Information System (GIS). In this regard, the municipality of Medvedja was, yesterday,  visited by representatives and the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Joseph Mellott, who first met with the local leaders, led by Mayor Nebojsa Arsic, and then by the GIS trainees, to whom they presented certificates.

"The training of our employees is very important not only for the trainees themselves, but also for all of us, because it will facilitate access to the local tax administration data for us.   These certificates are not only plain paper, but something that will improve the operation of our local self-government, especially in this area, "said Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor Medvedja, who thanked the representatives of the OSCE, especially Joseph Mallott, the Deputy Head of the Mission, for whom that was the first visit to South Serbia since his appointment to the position on September 1, 2017.

“It is a great honor for us to be in Medvedja today and we are very pleased that we could help with the implementation of this project. We mainly deal with political issues in Belgrade. However, what you do at the municipal level is very important to us. Your work in the field is extremely important, since it allows for things to be run and improved, and that is exactly what makes progress," said Joseph Mellott, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, who then handed out the certificates to all those who  successfully completed the training.

The GIS project will increase administrative efficiency, reduce costs and speed up the decision-making process.
