Belgrade – Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, Deputy Director of the Batut Institute of Public Health, said that research into immunity of the general population would start by the end of the week and that it would take 60 days, with the aim of determining the percentage of the immune.

“A representative result of the general population will be reached. In the first part, 1,000 persons will be tested and we will have the results very soon. The ultimate goal is to test 7,000 families, or 17,000 people, " Mrs.Tepavcevic Kisic said.

She said that families would be called by phone and that “every detail” would be explained to them, and if they wished to participate, since the testing was done on a voluntary basis, they would be scheduled a term at the closest institution or institute.

“Everyone will first fill out a questionnaire and give their consent, and then their blood will be taken for testing, "Mrs. Kisic Tepavcevic said.

According to her, every tested person will be informed whether he/she and his/her family members are immune to the coronavirus.

When asked if anyone could refuse testing, she answered that they could.

“Absolutely, all ethical principles are respected, but it is beneficial for each individual and for the common good,” Mrs. Tepavcevic Kisic underscored.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said he was skeptical of the claims that there was a high level of collective immunity in the population of Serbia, which some claim, and that it was therefore necessary to test the citizens, which would be done by the upcoming study.

“Personally, I am convinced that there are far fewer protected people among us than it is believed, "Mr.Kon said, adding that when the state of emergency was lifted, all those with fever would continue to be monitored and examined in the dispensaries.
