Bujanovac – The second conference on minority media and the prospects was held in Bujanovac. The conference was organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, and it was dedicated to the marketing and management or to the tools for active community participation in the media.

The topics discussed included the media in minority languages, the media of the civil sector, as well as the marketing research and various business techniques. Journalists from the local media, especially those from South Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija, exchanged the opinions and experiences from their environments.

Giacomo Bosisio, the Head of the OSCE’s Office in Bujanovac, reiterated that the OSCE Mission to Serbia supported freedom of the media and stressed that the local media, at a time when the business environment was becoming increasingly complicated, had a key role in relations with the local community. He said that he hoped that the local media would be able to survive in the media market, and that all media should have the same starting positions.

Speaking of successful radio formats, Mitko Jakovlevski, a media expert, said that local radio stations had a future. He also held a presentation on the mechanisms for providing funds for the normal operation of the electronic media.

The attendees of the conference were also addressed by Saip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac,  who emphasized the necessity for close cooperation of the local community with the media. According to him, the local media should be more involved in investigative journalism.

The event was attended by representatives of the Coordination Body, too.
