A major publication of a writer and a retired university professor Momcilo Zlatanovic, PhD (1934), who comes from Vranje, under the title of “The Glossary of South Serbia’s Speech” (provincialisms, dialesctisms and barbarisms), has just come out of press.
This is the fourth, revised edition of the most extensive lexicographical part of South Serbia’s speech, with more than 20 thousand words and concepts on 810 pages, issued by the Teacher Training Faculty in Vranje.
While showing the first copy of the publication, which was signed by the publisher, Professor Zlatanovic said that he was extremely glad that he could leave his major and comprehensive work on South Serbia’s speech to the science and new generations.
“A lot of trouble has been built into this pleasure of mine. I collected all the words in the field, at different times, by listening, for almost 50 years, the alive, supple, juicy and whimsical folk speech from Crna Trava and Grdelica, through Vlasina to Presevo’s Montenegro,” said Mr. Zlatanovic.
His first dictionary was published in 1998 , the second one ten years later, while the third one came out three years ago.
